Press Release - 09/03/11

You may have heard about the postponement of our family Rally on the 20th March. I have added new information about some live music I have arranged on that afternoon, as some people might still come and it will be an entertainment anyway.
The Save Delamere Forest campaign team has decided to postpone the Family Rally planned for Sunday 20th March. It was agreed that the message would not be right – and we could not make it a celebratory event because, despite the 85% forest sell-off being abandoned and the
15% sell-off delayed, our forests are far from being safe. We may need to hold a rally in the autumn, depending on the outcome of the independent panel review meetings. We want to thank anyone who was planning to attend the family rally and thank everyone for their support in the campaign. We did this together.
The group is far from defunct and we are still working to keep the pressure up. We shall be contacting Caroline Spelman, Jim Paice and MP Stephen O’Brien to suggest bodies which should be included on this forestry panel as we are particularly concerned that all the many different categories of forest users can make their voice heard. The website www.savedelamereforest.co.uk will stay in place and people should check it regularly for updates and news of any future
gathering. The website, donated to us by DX-Designs Ltd, also includes a page on the efforts the Forestry Commission have made regarding ecology in the forest. It also includes beautiful photographs. There will also be news about our special T-shirts celebrating Delamere Forest, which we hope will be available to the public soon.
Although we are not having the original family rally as planned, during the afternoon of Sunday 20th March, Stephen Lucas, a professional musician, has agreed to provide live music at Linmere, Delamere Forest. Stephen originates from Essex, but has moved to live near to Delamere Forest. An accomplished keyboard player (piano, church organ, popular organ, including the Wurlitzer and Hammond,) he also plays the saxophone and clarinet. He has played in bands and is a teacher of music (theory and practical.) So if you are planning to come to Delamere Forest on 20th March you are welcome to join us at Linmere Visitors’ Centre. Members of the campaign team will be there to thank everyone for their support with the petitions and comments on the website. Delamere Forest is safe for now, but please keep in touch with the campaign team through our website.
