Afternoon event at Linmere

The group met at Linmere Visitors Centre, Delamere Forest, on the afternoon of Sunday the 20th March. A few members of the group were there, we set up a gazebo and Stephen Lucas, a professional musician originally from Essex played lots of traditional and classical music for us on his keyboard. Many of the groups followers and local residents still came along to see us, despite our rally being cancelled. We were there from 1am-5pm, it went very quickly too!

We had a stall with photos and the latest DEFRA documents on show for people to see and ask about. We sold a few T-shirts and Hoodies. The group chatted to lots of people. A walking group changed their route from North Wales to Delamere just to visit us! We also encouraged people to sign our Visitors Book, so we could have some written information about why people use Delamere so much. We had over 150 comments. We did this because the Bishop of Liverpool, the leader of the new expert panel, asked for people to say why they came to their forests. The groups mascot, Mr Gorilla, was also walking around the forest, getting some more signatures, having a chat to some more people, and grabbing some attention!

Overall, the afternoon was very enjoyable for all. The atmosphere was very good thanks to Stephen's music. We had great feedback and responses from the public, and we're still not giving up. There is less urgency now, but the group are doing what we can to ensure we are safeguarding Delamere from any future plans. When the panel report back in the Autumn we will be ready to act if we need to- and the public have already shown they're willing to help us again. We want to thank all the public for their support, and thanks to Stephen Lucas and Delamere Cafe for the gazebo and the free hot chocolates! We are still selling Save Delamere T-shirts and hoodies, and people should continue to check our website www.savedelamereforest.co.uk. To get information on buying t-shirts, people should visit our Facebook page
